'Second Chance' was written at a time in my life when I was struggling with the guilt and shame for the sin and personal failures in my life. I was so discouraged about patterns of sin that had become embedded in the fabric of my every day living and was finding it difficult to see how things could change; how the cycles could be broken and how God could want to use me and all my flaws to sing his perfect, beautiful gospel. I found the answer at the cross.
I now dare to believe that the cross invites us through repentance to new beginnings in a world of infinite mercy, limitless grace and countless second chances. Thanks to Jesus passion on the cross, our failure isn't final but rather "It is finished". This is not to say that we don't take seriously sin and its toxicity, but just that we also take seriously the all-encompassing and resurrecting power of the cross. We are all broken people and none of us has got life under control but we can sing from within the mess that there is grace enough to "craft life from our mistakes", that God is still for us, even in our fractured state and that "A second chance is Heaven's heart."
